Collection consists of petitions, memorials, correspondence and land grants of Nathaniel Pettit, 1776-1846, including orders and instructions for the recruitment of loyalists, 1776; a copy of a petition by John Wheelwright and others of Exeter, Mass., 1639, with genealogical notes, 1639-1880; and an obituary notice for Laurence Lawrason, 1803-1882.

Pettit, Nathaniel, 1724-1803 : Nathaniel Pettit was named a judge of the Court of Common Pleas for Sussex County, New Jersey, in 1766. In 1776, he raised a loyalist unit, in co-operation with Col. Joseph Barton. He served three years in the Legislative Assembly of New Jersey, and 1792-1796 in that of Upper Canada.
