Collection consists of the memorial of Adam Mabane, Thomas Dunn and Jenkin Williams, 1782, requesting the payment for acting as commissioners for executing the office of Chief Justice of Quebec, 1778-1782, 2 pages, vol. 1. Also included are papers relating to an investigation of the administration of justice in Quebec, 1787, 117 pages, vol. 2; in particular, "Observations upon the oral and written evidence adduced during the investigation respecting the administration of justice in the Province of Quebec", 65 pages, together with "Additional Observations...", 14 pages and a "Preface and introduction to the observations", 25 pages, signed by Adam Mabane, Thomas Dunn and Pierre Panet, judges of the Court of Common Pleas, Quebec Distric, 1878, and a memorial, 13 pages, by Mabane, Dunn and Panet, 1787, concerning the investigation of the administration of justice in Quebec.

Quebec: Administration of justice : Adam Mabane (1734-1792), a Scottish military surgeon, was named to the Council of Quebec in 1764, and again in 1775 and 1791. He was a judge of the Court of Common Pleas and a friend and confidant of Sir Frederick Haldimand.

Thomas Dunn (1729-1818), administrator and politican, served as a member of the Executive Council (sometimes known as the Legislative Council) of Quebec, 1764-1791, and as a member of both Executive and Legislative Councils of Lower Canada, 1791-1818. As the senior Executive Councillor, he served as President and Administrator of Lower Canada, 1805-1807 and 1811.

Jenkin Williams (d. 1819), was Clerk of the Legislative Council from 1776 to 1791, and in 1782, he also received the appointment of Solicitor-General for the Province. He became a Judge of the Court of the Common Pleas in Lower Canada and a Judge of the Court of the King's Bench in 1794. In 1802, he was appointed a member of the Legislative Council of the Province.
