Fonds consists of three marriage registers of Rabbi Kahanovitch of Winnipeg, Man., including August, 1931 to June 12, 1938, 200 pages; June 12, 1938 to Sept. 1, 1940, 100 pages; and Sept. 29, 1940 to May 5, 1943, 100 pages. This material is located on microfilm reel M-6509.

Kahanovitch, Israel, 1872-1945 : Rabbi Israel Isaac Kahanovitch was born in Volpa, Grodno, Poland. He studied for the rabbinate at the Grodno and Slabodka seminaries. He immigrated to America in 1906, and in 1907, was appointed Rabbi of Beth Jacob Congregation Orthodox synagogue, which was founded in 1904 in north-end Winnipeg. He served the western Canadian Jewish community from there, for 38 years, until he died in 1945.
