Chester S. McLure, who was related to both the author L.M. Montgomery and the poet John LePage through his mother Caroline Woolner and who was a member of the Prince Edward Island Legislative Assembly, 1923-1930, and the House of Commons, 1930-1935, 1945-1953.
Lena McLure graduated from the University of Toronto Conservatory of Music in 1927 and after completing her studies in Boston, and London, England, taught music in the Charlottetown area. She later became women's editor of the Charlottetown Guardian and was involved in the Dominion Drama Festival. She was responsible for entertainment of Canadian troops at Nuffield, England, during World War II, when she made the acquaintance of Ann Haward, former lady's-maid to Canadian soprano Emma Albani. Lena McLure eventually settled in Toronto, Ont., where she taught English to new Canadians.Additional information:General note:The certificate from the Independent Order of Foresters has been cropped along the bottom edge and has suffered from fading and discolouration.
