Currie, a native of Scotland. He was educated in Montreal, and served as a clerk for five years for the Grand Trunk Railway. He then went to British Columbia, were he became part proprietor of the Columbia Commercial College in Vancouver, and then treasurer of the Vancouver Liberal Association. Currie travelled widely in North America and used this experience in his writing.
In 1893, he published a volume of verse "How I Felt: Songs of Love and Travel". At the beginning of the 20th century, he went to Florida where he was an attorney at law, and later the mayor of West Palm Beach.
