Fonds consists of personal papers of Thomas James Allard such as appointment books, draft publications, research files assembled by Allard in researching Canadian broadcasting, material from the records of the Canadian Association of Broadcasters.

Fonds consists of photographs of Thomas James Allard, his collegues in the Canadian Association of Broadcasters, awards, ceremonies and CAB annual meetings.

Fonds also includes a video recording about opthalmologists, 1977; and a variety of sound recordings about Canadian radio broadcasting history and radio programming on the history of Rock and Roll, 1960-[1980].

Allard, T. J. (Thomas James), 1914-1982 : Thomas James Allard, broadcasting executive and historian, was born in Sault Ste. Marie and grew up in Edmonton. He joined a local radio station, CJCA, in 1935 as announcer. In 1944 he was appointed manager of the Canadian Radio Bureau in Ottawa, and in 1945 he was sent by Canadian radio stations as a reporter, to the founding conference of the United Nations in San Francisco. He was appointed Director of Public Relations for the Canadian Association of Broadcasters in 1946, General Manager of the organization in 1948, and Executive Vice-President in 1954. His position was eliminated in 1973 in a corporate organization, but he was retained as a Special Communications Consultant and Advisor with the primary function of writing a history of Canadian private broadcasting.

The C.A.B. Story, 1926-1976: Private Broadcasting in Canada, was published by the C.A.B. in 1976, followed by a more detailed study, Straight Up: Private Broadcasting in Canada, 1918-1958, published by Canadian Communications Foundation in 1979. After leaving the C.A.B. Allard established T.J. Allard and Associates, a communications consultation firm. In 1981 he and three associates established Four Fast Trolls, another consultation firm.
