Martin, Archer Evans Stringer, 1865-1941 : Archer Martin, judge, was born in Hamilton, Upper Canada, and educated in Port Hope and in Belgium. Appointed a judge of the Supreme Court of British Columbia in 1898, and to the Admiralty Court, 1902, Martin was transferred to the newly-created Court of Appeal in 1909. In 1937, he was appointed chief justice of British Columbia. He retired in 1940. He was the author of The Hudson's Bay Company Land Tenures (1898), and other works. See: Encyclopedia Canadiana, Vol. 6, p. 394-5; Canadian Who's Who, 1938-1939, p. 451.
