Fonds consists of engineering notebooks, n.d., 1881, 1884, 3 cm; newspaper clippings, 1898-1946, 3 cm; correspondence, 1896-1922, 4 cm; letterbooks, 1888-1894, 4 cm (vol. 1); scrapbooks, 1880-1946, 8 cm (vols. 1-2).

Fonds also consists of photographs, 1860-1943, of George H. Duggan, his wife and children, and of Duggan with Captain Angus Walters of the Schooner Bluenose.

Duggan, George Herrick, 1862-1946 : George Herrick Duggan, engineer, born in 1862 at Toronto, was the son of John Duggan, a lawyer. He was educated at Upper Canada College, graduated in 1883 from the school of Practical Science (now part of the University of Toronto) with an engineering diploma, followed by postgraduate study in 1884. While a student, he worked with the Canadian Pacific Railway on bridge design and construction in western Canada. He continued to work with the CPR until 1887 when he joined the Dominion Bridge Company, becoming chief engineer in 1891. From 1901 until 1910, he held a managerial position with the Dominion Steel Company and Dominion Coal Company, returning to Dominion Bridge in 1910. He rose to become president of that company, resigning in 1936.

Duggan was an active yachtsman and designed and built many yachts, including a series of winners of the Sewhanka Cup, a trophy emblematic of success in international small yacht racing. Duggan held many honours of a professional nature as well as sporting awards.
