The photographs show various views of the Canadian Pacific Railway and Canadian Northern Railway bridges in Ontario, Saskatchewan, Alberta, and British Columbia. 1903-1919. The diaries document the work done on the various projects.
Material in the fonds was microfilmed and then later the microfilm was digitized.
For further details on the photographs, please see lower level series description.Provenance:Biography/Administrative history:Macredie, John Robert Clarke, 1879-1932 : J.R.C. Macredie was born in New Brunswick and was an engineer with the Canadian Pacific Railway. He graduated in 1901 from Canada's oldest engineering college at the University of New Brunswick.
He began his career with the Canadian Pacific Railway in 1902, when he was hired as a rodman for the Engineering Department in Chapleau, Ontario. Between 1904 and 1907, he was assistant resident engineer for the Toronto - Sudbury llne and then later in northwestern Ontario near Kenora.
He the moved west and became resident engineer for the construction work relating to the Lethbridge Viaduct over the Old Man River in 1908-1909, which became one of the longest continuous girder bridges in the world.
He supervised construction of the railway bridge at Outlook, Saskatchewan and was Resident Engineer for the Construction of the Connaught tunnel, Roger's Pass, B.C., as well as being involved in numerous other projects. in Western Canada.
