Fonds consists of a pamphlet written by Phillipps, "Winter Trip on the Canadian Pacific Railway - Christmas and New Year in the Snow, 1885-86"; an undated article on the Canadian Pacific Railway entitled "The Colossus of the North"; three letters; and an obituary concerning Phillipps' death.

Phillipps, Michael, 1840-1916 : Michael Phillipps was born in Hereford, England and emigrated to British Columbia in 1864. He was employed in the service of the Hudson's Bay Company at various posts in British Columbia until 1869 when he established a ranch in the Tobacco Plains region. He claimed to have blazed the Crow's Nest Trail and to have been the first person to locate and report on the coal and oil deposits in the area. From 1890 until 1893 he was the Indian agent for the Kootenay region.
