Item consists of an essay by J.G.C. Fraser describing the development and activities of the Cereal Division, under the direction of C.E. Saunders, L.H. Newman and C.H. Golden, 1903-1953. Entitled "The First Fifty Years", the work contains statistical information on the Division's organization, research, facilities, staff and performance.

Fraser, John Gordon Carl, b. 1893 : John Gordon Carl Fraser, public servant and agricultural scientist, born in 1893 at Quebec, received his B.S.A., from McGill University in 1916 and joined the Cereal Division of the Central Experimental Farm in 1919, following his return from overseas. In charge of pea and spring wheat investigations, he became Chief Assistant of the Division in 1929, a position he held until his retirement.
