Fonds consists of two letters by William Otis Sawtelle to Edwards, discussing the history of Mount Desert Island, Maine, and its connection with the history of Acadia, dated 1928, 4 pages; one letter of thanks from Thomas F.A. Anderson to F. Blake Crofton and a few clippings on Louisbourg, N.S, n.d., 7 pages; two booklets, "Colonial Walks in the Heart of Old Philadelphia" (unknown author, n.d.) and "Sources of Canadian History With Special Reference to Nova Scotia" by J.P. Edwards (Collections of Nova Scotia Historical Society, Vol. XX, Halifax, 1921); two photographs of the Islesford Collection, Little Cranberry Island, Me., dated 1927.

Edwards, Joseph Plimsoll, 1857-1930 : Joseph Plimsoll Edwards, historian, was educated in Montreal and went into business there. In 1893, he moved to Londonderry, N.S., where he managed an iron foundry. He was appointed the first income tax inspector for Nova Scotia in 1916 and moved to Halifax.

An authority on military history, Edwards was the author of a number of historical papers and pamphlets, notably "Louisbourg: An Historical Sketch", (1895) and "The Public Records of Nova Scotia", (1920).
