Wallace, Sir James, 1731-1803 : Naval officer colonial administrator

Sir James Wallace was a career naval officer who rose from lieutenant in 1755 to admiral in 1801. He saw action in the West Indies 1758-1759, off the North American coast, 1774-1777 and 1780, and was appointed Rear-Admiral and Commander-in Chief in Newfoundland in 1794. He returned to England early in 1797.
