Fonds consists of correspondence, memoranda, reports, notes and Departmental circulars providing information, regarding diplomatic procedures and protocol; the administration of the Diplomatic Division of the Department of External Affairs; emergency measures taken during World War II; issues raised at Imperial and international conferences; and legal questions concerning boundaries, radio broadcasting and air transport (volumes 1-7).

Beaudry, Laurent, 1886-1966 : Laurent Beaudry was born in the Province of Quebec, and received his education at Laval and Oxford Universities. A Rhodes Scholar, he received both an M.A. and L.L.D. at Oxford. He joined the Department of External Affairs in 1927, as first secretary to the Canadian Legation at Washington. The next year he returned to Ottawa and in 1929, was promoted to the rank of counsellor in the Assistant Under-Secretary's office. From 1935 to 1947, he was the Assistant Under-Secretary and, from 1947 to his retirement in 1948, Beaudry was the Associate Under-Secretary of state for External Affairs.

Received from the Department of External Affairs.
Twenty-two (22) Japanese passports in file 13 of volume 1 were transferred to the Japanese Canadian Redress Secretariat in December 1994. The Secretariat was to return the passports to the original owners or their descendants. Photocopies of the passports have been placed in the file.
