Fonds consists of memoranda discussing Redfern's role in thanking those Canadian families who took in British children evacuated during World War II, original, 1980, 3 pages; a three-part memorandum prepared by Redfern discussing the army reinforcement crisis of 1944, Redfern's personal opinion of the events, and the extent to which the Govenor General was involved, 1944-1945, microfilm reel A-1412. There is correspondence including two letters with Prime Minister Louis St. Laurent, and a letter from J.R. Mallory pertaining to Redfern's memorandum on the role of the Governor General, 1950-1954, microfilm reel A-1412.

Redfern, Arthur Shuldman, b. 1895 : Sir Arthur Shuldman Redfern, public servant, was born in England in 1895 and was educated at Trinity College, Cambridge. During World War I, he served in France with the Royal Flying Corps and the Royal Air Force, attaining the rank of Major. In 1920, Redfern joined the Sudan Political Service and he remained in the Sudan until 1935, when he came to Canada as the Secretary to the Governor General. Redfern held this position until 1945, when he returned to England.

For his service, Redfern was awarded a K.C.V.O. in 1939, and a C.M.G. in 1945.
