This material is located on microfilm reel M-7495.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Demuth, Oskar, 1884-ca. 1974 : Oskar Demuth, businessman and World War II internee, was born in 1884 in Berlin, Germany, and immigrated to Canada in 1913. After an unsuccessful attempt at homesteading, he settled in Winnipeg, Man. where in 1920, he opened a small tobacco shop. Among other things, he sold German language newspapers and operated a lending library in German books. Active in the local German community, in particular a sports club with National Socialist sympathies, he was interned immediately after war broke out in September 1939. After a brief stay in Kananaskis, Alta., he was transferred to a camp near Frederiction, N.B., where he remained for the duration of the war.
