Fonds consists of programmes of the Henley, Lachine Boat Club and National Association of Amateur Oarsmen Regattas, 1898-1911, and an annual report of the Grand Trunk Boating Club, 1907, 2.5 cm; biographical sketch of W.J. Harrison written by his wife, 1973, 3 pages; membership cards of the Ottawa Rowing Club 1932, 1940, 2 pages. The fonds also contains group photographs of various teams of the Ottawa Rowing Club, Ottawa, Ontario, ca.1910.

Harrison, William Joseph, 1878-1963 : William Joseph Harrison, sculler and businessman, was born in 1878 at Brockport, N.Y. He went to Montreal at the age of sixteen to work in one of his father's clothing manufacturing plants. While in Montreal, he joined the Grand Trunk Boating Club. When he moved to Ottawa, at the age of twenty-six, he was invited to join the Ottawa Rowing Club which was emerging as a strong contender in the North American rowing scene. In 1909-1910, it won a number of important victories. Harrison was a member of the Ottawa crew that captured the senior eight title in the National A.A. Regatta of the United States in 1910. In 1911 this crew represented Canada at the Henley Regatta in England. Harrison operated a clothing manufacturing business, Sparks-Harrison Ltd., in Hull, Quebec, until 1950.
