Item consists of a manuscript volume entitled, "Rambling Thoughts of a Wandering Fellow, 1903-1968", which describes Henry Stelfox's experiences, beginning with his service in South Africa. The bulk of the manuscript deals with his life as a homesteader and rancher in central Alberta. In particular, he records his wide knowledge of the wildlife and Indians of the area gained as a game warden and Indian agent. Bound volume includes photographs.

Stelfox, Henry, b. ca. 1883 : Henry Stelfox, rancher and public servant, left his native England to serve with the South African Constabulary, 1903-1906. He then journeyed to Canada where he homesteaded near Rocky Mountain House in central Alberta. As well, he soon became involved in duties as a game warden for the Alberta government and an Indian agent for the federal government. In 1954, he won the Julian Crandall Trophy, Canada's most outstanding conservation award.
