Fonds consists of microfilmed correspondence received by Martin and Hedwig Gundermann concerning family matters, Gundermann's business affairs, his experiences at Fort Henry, Kingston, and social conditions in Germany prior to and immediately after the war, n.d., 1915, 1918-1949, microfilm reels: M-4615 to M-4616; family papers and circulars from St. John's Lutheran church, Montreal, 1944-1946, and from the German Society of Montreal, 1947, 1949: microfilm reel M-4616.

Gundermann, John Martin (Family) : John Martin Gundermann (1895-1973) and Hedwig Maria Fischer (1897-1974) were married in 1919 in Greiz Aubachtal, Germany. The couple immigrated to Canada in 1930, following a serious deterioration of business conditions in Germany. In Canada Martin Gundermann worked, first, as a labourer and, after the war, as manager of a printing office. He was interned when World War II broke out, and detained at Fort Henry, Kingston, from September, 1939, until release in December of the same year. The couple separated soon after the termination of the war in 1945.
