Fonds consists of reports, clippings, correspondence and memoranda relating to issues and activities in which Halliday was interested during his career as a public servant. Fonds contains documents relating to the origins of the Canadian flag, the history of Ottawa as well as a photocopy of a history of Rockcliffe. It also contains the Army Communications Service Telephone Directory used for the Quebec Conference of 1943 and various reports of the Ottawa Improvement Commission. Fonds contains material relating to the Historical Advisory Committee of the National Capital Commission for the years 1925-1970 of which Halliday was a member from 1959-1970. Photocopies, 18 pages.

The fonds also contains photographic views of Ottawa; Almonte, Ontario; Point-Gatineau and Kirks Ferry, Que.; Birkenfels, Rockcliffe Park; Rockcliffe Manor House, Ontario, n.d., [ca. 1860-1910]; photograph of a watercolour of Parliament Hill from the river (work signed by E. Lake Jr.); depiction of George Keefer; burial place of Alexander Graham Bell, Baddeck, Nova Scotia. Also included is a lithograph print entitled [Old Parliament Buildings] by Mortimer Lithograph Co. after Willaim Harvey Sadd; one print engraving depicting Government House, Victoria, British Columbia and Mount Baker, U.S.A., in the 1880's by C.A. de L'Aubiniere.

Fonds consists of 3 architectural drawings produced by the National Capital Commission essentially for the restoration of parts of the Byward Market in Ottawa.

Halliday, W.E. Durrant, 1897- : William E.D. Halliday was the secretary of the Privy Council Office, and then registrar of the Cabinet from 1940 to his retirement in 1963. He was a member of the Historical Advisory Committee of the National Capital Commission, 1959-1970.
