Fonds consists of correspondence concerning the United Steelworkers of America, the Ontario Federation of Labour and other matters including documents on a libel case brought by Mike Fenwick against local 480, International Union of Mine, Mill and Smelter Workers; articles and speeches by Fenwick; miscellaneous material including biographical information, transcript of an interview with Fenwick, printed matter, union songbook, conference report, paper by Charles Taylor on Socialism in the 1970's and Contract Listings; newspaper clippings.

The fonds also contains photographs depicting Fenwick and members of the National Workers Union (Jamaica), 1957; union delegates to the Non-Ferrous Industry Conference, Pittsburgh, Pa., 1974.

Fenwick, Michael J., 1912-1983 : Born in the Ukraine, Mike Fenwick, labour leader, immigrated to Canada as a youth. He served his apprenticeship in the labour movement during the Great Depression. In 1932, he was jailed for distributing leaflets advocating a strike over relief camp conditions. Between 1935 and 1939, he wrote for the Communist newspaper The Worker (subsequently called the Clarion). From the late thirties until the early fifties, he organized steelworkers throughout Ontario.

In 1954, he was appointed Assistant to the Director of District 6, United Steelworkers of America, a position he held until his retirement in 1976. In 1965, the Ontario Government appointed him to the Dennis-Hall Committee investigating the aims and objectives of education in the province. He was also a member of the Ontario Federation of Labour's education committee.
