Fonds consists of correspondence received by Karol Manik from friends and relatives in Slovakia, n.d., 1927-1977, the United States and the different parts of Canada, 1967-1974; Manik's autobiography, ca. 1977; the memoirs of Andro Bojas, another Slovak immigrant, n.d., and clippings relating to Slovak life in Canada, n.d., 1930-1933. The fonds also contains photographs depicting friends and activities of Karol Manik in Slovakia and Canada.

Manik, Karol, b. 1898 : Karol Manik born in 1898 in Slovakia and immigrated to Canada in 1926. Here he travelled to different parts of the country in search of employment before settling in Fort Frances, Ontario, where he purchased a farm. He farmed from 1933 to 1941, when he lost his farm. In 1945, he moved to Kitchener, where he worked for Dominion Tire until 1963, and was active in the local branch of the Slovak League.
