Fonds consists of a letterbook kept by Benjamin Burland while he worked as a salesman for the Burland Lithographing Company Ltd., and some loose enclosures documenting Benjamin Burland's career with the company. Enclosures begin with his threatened resignation in 1888, and include correspondence with Alex Sabiston of A. Sabiston and Company, Artistic Lithographers and Colors Printers, and G.B. Burland. Also included is correspondence proceeding this period. Letters record Benjamin Burland's work for the company, its business practices and clients in Montreal. Some family correspondence is also included.

Burland, Benjamin, born 1861 : Benjamin Burland was born in Chambly Canton, Québec in 1861, the son of Benjamin and Maria Burland. He began his business career in the early 1880s with the Burland Lithographing Company Ltd., working for his uncle, George Bull Burland. This company was later absorbed by the British-American Bank Note Company. In 1905, Burland retired and became successful in the real estate, insurance and investment business. He was married in 1890 to Mary Craig, who later died, and in 1897 to Bertha E.S. Belasco. His children included two daughters and one son.Equivalent[Records...] [Display...] [Expand...]
