Fonds conists of textual records including a letter to E.M. Chadwick from Lord Aberdeen thanking him for the copy of the book THE PEOPLE OF THE LONGHOUSE, dated 4 January 1897, 2 pages; letter to E.M. Chadwick from David Erskine, Lord Aberdeen's secretary, giving Chadwick permission to use Lord Aberdeen's letter for the promotion of his book, dated 13 January 1898, 1 page; and a promotional leaflet relating to THE PEOPLE OF THE LONGHOUSE, which contains, among others, the letter of Lord Aberdeen to Chadwick, 2 pages.

Also included in fonds is a sketchbook containing artistic material by Edward Marion Chadwick. The sketchbook contains original heraldic designs entitled "Heraldry of Ontario Families," documenting Arms bonre by families of Ontario with a few of other provinces of Canada.

Chadwick, Edward Marion, 1840-1921 : Edward Marion Chadwick was born in Ancaster, Upper Canada and called to the bar in 1863. He practised law in Toronto and was made a K.C. in 1910. He was a retired Major from the 2nd Regiment of the Queen's Own Rifles of Canada, an amateur armorist and genealogist, and Honorary Chief of the Six Nation Indians under the name Shagotyohgwisaks.

Chadwick's books cover such subjects as heraldry, genealogies of United Empire Loyalists and Ontario families, and the Six Nation Indians. He edited the ONTARIO GENEALOGIST AND FAMILY HISTORIAN, 1898-1901, and authored ONTARIO FAMILIES, 1894-1898 and THE PEOPLE OF THE LONG HOUSE, 1898.
