Fonds consists of correspondence from W.B. Rowell to his family, 1904-1907, describing his attempts to homestead in Alberta and logging in British Columbia, and returned letters from his mother 1907-1909, original, 2.5 cm; a map of Rowell's movements,; newspaper articles, 1905, and an Affidavit of his death, His Majesty's High Court of Justice, 1935, photocopy, 0.2 cm.

Rowell, Wilfred Bastyan, 1884-1907 : Wilfred B. Rowell was born at East Teignmouth, South Devon, England. In 1904, at the age of 20, he immigrated to Canada where he planned to go into ranching. Wilfred worked on several ranches in Alberta. He attempted to homestead near Arthur, Alberta, but his homestead was cancelled when he spent a winter working in British Columbia, absent from his homestead. He was last located in a logging camp in south-eastern British Columbia at Moysie, in October 1907.

No contact was made with him after 1907, and he was officially declared to have died in 1907, when his estate was probated in 1935.
