Fonds consists of textual material which include seven Morocco bound volumes of autographs letters, original; unpublished manuscript "Days with the Times", original; a letter from the Royal Commonwealth Society and Library, notes concerning Sir Campbell Stuart's papers in Imperial Communications, photocopy.

Fonds consists of one oil portrait painting by Alexander Christie of Sir Campbell Stuart; one oil painting depicting a half-length portrait to the right of William Smith, Chief Justice of Quebec, 1786-1793.

Also included in fonds are recorded reminiscences by Sir Campbell Stuart, former managing editor of the London Times, about his career highlights in Britain and in Canada, and his organization of a banquet at the Palace of Versailles for the Canadian Archives in 1924. Recorded circa 1970.

Stuart, Sir Campbell, 1885-1972 : Sir Stuart Campbell, newspaper director, born in 1885 at Montreal, Que., was a descendant of William Smith, Chief Justice of Quebec and of Lower Canada, 1786-1793.

He served in the Canadian Army during World War I and attained the rank of lieutenant-colonel. From 1917 to 1918, he served as assistant military attaché at the British Embassy in the United States and as military secretary of the British War Museum in New York. He was chairman of the Imperial Communications Advisory Committee (later the Commonwealth Communications Council) from 1933 until 1945. In the early months of World War II he was chairman of the advisory committee to the British Ministry of Information and director of enemy propaganda.

In 1919, he began his career with the London Times and became a director in 1922, a position he held for more than 30 years. He was instrumental in founding the Canadian History Society in London, England, in 1923, and a French branch in 1924. He was chairman of the Hudson's Bay Record Society and vice-president of the Champlain Society.
