Fonds consists of correspondence, 1918, relating to the relocation of the Grosswerder school, and school records showing the distance of children from school, 1923 and 1924; correspondence relating to contributions by the Schachtel family to the "Hilfswerk der Wolgadeutschen", 1922 and 1923; a letter by a German in Argentina seeking information on possible areas of settlement in western Canada, 1931; correspondence relating to the emigration from Russia of the family of Jacob Kohlmann, n.d., and 1922; and letters dealing with Joseph Schachtel's resignation as postmaster for Grosswerder, 1951.

Schachtel, Joseph (1874-1956) : Joseph Schachtel, farmer and postmaster, emigrated from Russia to Canada at the beginning of the 20th century. He settled in Grosswerder, Saskatchewan, where he became a member of the local School Board and operated the Grosswerder Post Office.
