Clarendon Parish (Clarendon Township, Quebec : Anglican) : The Anglican Parish of Clarendon was settled in the 1820s chiefly by Irish protestants. These early settlers had to depend on the Methodists for religious ministry with occasional visits from the Anglican missionaries at Hull. The first resident Anglican missionary, 1842-1843, was the Rev. Daniel Falloon, and the first church at Clarendon Centre now Shawville was completed in 1842. Initially, the territory for which the Clarendon missionary was responsible was very wide, covering as it did the whole of Pontiac County in Quebec, and even some of the settlements on the other side of the Ottawa River.

Gradually, various other missions and parishes were carved out of this large territory, and by 1905 it embraced some 16 churches. In Clarendon Township, St. Paul's, Shawville; Holy Trinity, Radford; St. Alban's, Parkman; St. Matthew's, Charteris; and St. George's, Portage-du-Fort. In Litchfield Township, St. James', Bryson; St. John's, Clarke's; and St. George's, Campbell's Bay. In Leslie Township, St. James', Leslie. In Thorne Township, St. Stephen's, Greer Mount, and St. George's, Thorne Centre. In Bristol Township, St. Luke's, Caldwell; St. Thomas', Bristol Corners; and St. Barnabas', Bristol Mines. In Oslow Township, St. John's, Quyon; and St. Matthew's, North Onslow.

The much wider jurisdiction of the original parish is reflected by the registers in this collection of the earliest records from St. Paul's, Shawville.
