Fonds consists of a collection of 22 manuscripts and autographed letters relating to military accounts, signed by various officers, and dated Montreal and Ottawa, 1873-1878; several items signed by Charles Eugene Plant, Deputy Minister of the Department of Militia and Defence, 1829-1898.

Bréhaut, W.-H. (William Henry), 1809-1880 : Military officer

William Henry Bréhaut was born at St. Rochs, P.Q. and was called to the bar in Lower Canada. He was a joint clerk of the peace from 1838 to 1869 when he was appointed Police Magistrate for the District of Montreal. W.H. Bréhaut was appointed Paymaster of Military District No. 6 with the rank of Honorary Captain on the 19th January 1869. He was promoted to the rank of Honorary Major in 1870 and in 1875 or 1876 he was raised to the rank of an Honorary Lieutenant-colonel.
