Mackenzie, George Allan, b. 1849 : George Allan Mackenzie was born in Toronto and educated at Trinity College. He graduated in 1869 with first class honours in classics for which he won the Prince of Wales Prize. Called to the Bar in 1873, he practiced law until ill-health compelled him to retire in approximately 1900. Mackenzie was an essayist and contributor to periodicals such as THE CANADIAN MONTHLY. His literary works include two volumes of poetry, SIX LYRICS OF THE HIGHER LIFE and MALCOLM AND OTHER POEMS, and a volume of translations of poems by Rabindranath Tagore. A collection of Mackenzie's poems, IN THAT NEW WORLD WHICH IS THE OLD, was published in 1914.
