Fonds also consists of a portrait of Lady Albertina Herbert, wife of I.J.C. Herbert.

Fonds also consists of sketchbook views by Herbert of the landscape, buildings and people from the period of his service in Egypt and the Sudan.

Herbert, Ivor John Caradoc, 1851-1933 : Major-General Sir Ivor Herbert, 1st Baron Treowen was commissioned in the Grenadier Guards in 1870. He served as a brigade major in the expeditionary force to Egypt in 1882, and commanded the Guards Camel Regiment in the Nile Expedition, 1884-1885. From 1885 to 1886 he commanded the School of Instruction for the Auxiliary Forces before assuming the post of military attaché to the British Embassy at St. Petersburg. Colonel Herbert then accepted the appointment of General Officer Commanding the Canadian Militia in 1890, holding the local rank of Major-General, and served until 1895.

He acted as commander of the colonial contingents gathered in England for the celebration of the Jubilee in 1897. One of Herbert's responsibilities as a headquarters staff officer during the South African War was taking charge of the foreign military observers, as a result of which he accumulated a number of European honours. He was awarded the C.B. in 1890, the C.M.G. in 1895, created a baronet in 1907 and a baron in 1917. From 1906 to 1917 he was a member of Parliament, and from 1917 to 1918 the Director of Recruiting and National Service for Wales.
