Fort Kamloops : Fort Kamloops was first built at the confluence of the North and South Thompson rivers by David Stuart of the Pacific Fur Company and called Shewaps Fort. It was later taken over by the North West Company and called Fort Thompson. In 1901 the new Hudson's Bay Company relocated the fort to the west side of the North Thompson River and named it Fort Kamloops. In 1861-1862 Chief Factor Donald McLeod moved the fort back to the original site on the south bank of the South Thompson River.
