An amateur film made by free-lance commercial artist and book illustrator Lloyd E.W. Scott during his August 1962 trip with the Indian-Eskimo Association to northern Ontario; Great Whale River; Povungnituk, Québec; and Cape Dorset, Northwet Territories. Opening footage includes shots of various towns and locations along the Northern Ontario Railway route. At Povungnituk, Inuit are shown wearing non-traditional clothing. An Inuit elder, his daughter, and Harry Walker of CBC Northern Services examine the remnants of an ancient dwelling on an island off Povungnituk. Other locations and sequences include: a boat trip to Fox Islands in Andrew Gordon Bay; excellent arctic landscapes, including flora and fauna; the ruins of a Thule Inuit subterranean dwelling; whites and Inuit on a seal hunt by motor schooner and canoe; a seal being harpooned, hoisted on board, and cleaned; an Inuit carving soapstone; Inuit excavating ruin site; and a white man examining a native trident fish spear. <14mn>
