Fonds consists of a diary of the siege of Quebec, 17 July to 9 September 1759, including a genealogy of the Irving family prepared by Dr. Christopher Irving, 1646, with a supplement by Paulus Aemilius Irving, 1791. In addition, there are contemporary copies of letters between Generals Wolfe and Murray, and proceedings of a General Council held at Levis, 1759. This material is located on microfilm reel A-652.

Irving, Paulus Aemilius, 1714-1796 : Paulus Aemilius Irving, army officer, councillor, and administrator of Quebec, was born 23 September 1714 in Scotland. He served as captain in the 15th Foot in 1753 and as major by 1758. In 1759 he joined James Wolfe's expedition against Quebec and, in October of that year, was appointed quartermaster general to succeeed Colonel Guy Carleton. Promoted lieutenant-colonel in January 1762, Irving was an obvious choice as a member of the council James Murray was to select when the civilian government was established in August 1764. He was commissioned lieutenant governor for the District of Montreal two weeks later. Events in Montreal would lead to Irving becoming administer of the government of the province of Quebec, in 1766, during the absence of General Murray. Paulus Aemilius Irving died in England, 22 April, 1796. Dictionary of Canadian Biography.
