The fonds consists of both originals (volume 1) and transcripts (volume 2) of the records of Granville Township (Annapolis County, Nova Scotia). The originals consist of the Granville Township Book, 1720-1881 (379 pages), which includes a register of births, marriages, and deaths; records of livestock earmarks; and minutes of township meetings, 1769-1781 (pages 190-199). Note that pages 213 to 217 are missing from the original.

The transcripts include a list of the township clerks, 1779-1876 (2 pages), and a transcript of the second version of the Granville Township Book (93 pages). This version includes a reference to the original book as the "Old Record", and is not identical to it, probably having replaced the original in active usage by the township. The transcript of this version includes a register of births, marriages, and deaths, 1720-1868; clergy returns of baptisms, marriages, and burials, 1830-1834 (page 75); and ordinances of the General Sessions of the Peace of Annapolis County, 1830-1840 (pages 61, 92-93).

Custodial history:

There are two different versions of the Granville Township Book. It seems that a copy was made from the original township book (ca. 1880s?), and then the original was retired from usage, while the township continued to use the second version. LAC acquired the original Granville Township Book in 1913 and made a transcript of the second version in 1930.

This second version was later acquired by the Nova Scotia Archives (MG 4 vol. 185-185a) in 1976. The Nova Scotia Archives description states that it is "apparently a copy of an earlier volume, with additions", including it seems some entries up to as late as 1933. LAC's transcript of this second version (made in 1930) stopped at the year 1868, so that the original of this second version at the Nova Scotia Archives includes entries that postdate LAC's transcript.
