Lady Heathcote's album commemorates Members of the House of Commons in Britain under King William IV, 1835-1837. Arranged over some 270 pages, the album presents the postal franks of the MP's in alphabetical order, by riding, within the georgraphic division of England, Wales, Scotland and Ireland. The franks were excised from postal covers, leaving little or no context to confirm the identification of signatures. The album pages were embellished with coats of arms, biographical notes, scenic views, architectural drawings and portraits clipped from contemporary periodicals. A number of coloured portraits pasted to the fly-leaves may have been inserted after the initial assembly of the album.

General note:

Presented in 1952 by John D. Higinbotham of Guelph, Ontario, who had himself acquired the album in 1933.
Lady Selina Heathcote was the second wife of Baronet William Heathcote (1801-1881) of Hursley, Hampshire, England. Lady Selina Dow Shirley was the daughter of Evelyn Shirley. She was born in 1814, and she married William Heathcote in 1841. Heathcote was the MP for Hampshire North from 1837 to 1839, and the bulk of materials in the album relate to this period. Lady Selina presumably assembled the album after their 1841 marriage, possibly finishing the project in 1852.
