Porteous, Robert, 1797-1879 : Robert Porteous was born on the Island of Hoye, one of the Orkneys, and came to Upper Canada at an early age. He taught school for a time at Mitchell, Upper Canada, then farmed in Dalhousie Township and kept a hotel at Fullerton.
