0.8 cm of textual records some photocopies.Language of material:EnglishScope and content:Collection consists of a microfilmed diary recording Evans's experiences with the 8th Foot during the Napoleonic Wars in Egypt and the Mediterranean, 1799 to 1801. This material is located on microfilm reel M-827. There is also a report to the War Office concerning the Battle of Queenston Heights written by Evans while at Fort George, dated 15 October 1812, in several copies, 31 pages.Provenance:Additional name(s):Biography/Administrative history:Evans, Thomas, 1776-1863 : Thomas Evans served with the 8th Foot (King's) Regiment in the West Indies, the Mediterranean and Egypt, 1796-1891, and from 1803 at various posts in North America. During 1809-1810 Evans was military secretary to Sir Gordon Drummond and served with distinction during the War of 1812, being made a companion of the bath for his efforts in February-March 1814 in leading troops through the wilderness between New Brunswick and Quebec. Evans attained the rank of major in 1812. He died at Three Rivers, Que., 1863.Additional information:Location of originals note:Diary is from a typescript held by Mrs. George Broomfield of Cooksville, Ont. Two of the photocopies of the report by Thomas Evans were copied from originals in the National Museums and Galleries on Merseyside in Liverpool, England.
