Fonds consists of a letter from Acting Governor Thomas Dunn to Admiral G.C. Berkeley concerning the defence of Canada, 16 September 1907; a letter from Bermuda while Admiral Berkely was in charge of the Halifax Station, in which he discusses at length the progress of the war along the American coast, and mentions the question of the English deserters which would eventually lead to the incident between the American frigate, Cheasapeake and the British frigate, H.M.S. Leopard in June 1907, his plan to develop Bermuda as a major naval base, and the latest news concerning the French fleet.

Berkeley, George Cranfield, Sir, 1753-1818 : George Berkeley entered the Royal Navy in 1766. In 1805, he was appointed as Vice-Admiral to the Command of the Halifax Station. In 1808, he was appointed to the Chief Command on the coast of Portugal. He became an Admiral in 1810, and retired in 1812.
