Van Cott (family) : Claes Van Cats and his wife, Jatalyn Jans, emigrated from Holland to Long Island, U.S.A., in 1652. Their great grandson, John Van Cott (b. 1750) came to Upper Canada in 1788 as a United Empire Loyalist and settled in Adolphustown. John Van Cott married twice and had a total of ten children from his two marriages.
