Hellenic Community of Montreal : The history of the Hellenic Community of Montreal (HCM) predates its founding in 1926. Beginning with the arrival of large numbers of Greek immigrants to Canada after 1900, the Montreal community sought to organize itself in order to preserve its Hellenic language, culture and traditions and the Greek Orthodox faith. In 1906, Evangelismos Greek Orthodox Church was established. In 1931 it merged with the Holy Trinity Greek Orthodox Church which was founded in 1925 to meet the growing needs of the community.

Shortly after the incorporation of Holy Trinity Church in September, 1925, a group of community leaders sought and obtained a provincial charter establishing the HCM in March 1926. As a result, Holy Trinity Church and the Socrates Anglo-Greek School (est. 1925) were merged into the HCM which was now responsible for governing the organised community's administrative affairs. In 1926, the Hellenic Benevolent Society was organized.

After World War II, when the Canadian Government eased its restrictive immigration policy, the total Greek-Canadian population increased from 12,000 in 1941 to over 124,000 in 1971. Today the Montreal community alone numbers over 60,000. To care for them, the HCM provides a broad range of services for its growing population. Three new churches were established: St. George's Cathedral in 1961, Koimisis Tis Theotokou Church in 1968 and the new Evangelismos Church in 1976. In 1957, the afternoon school system was organized. In 1970, a new school building was purchased and the elementary school system was renamed Socrates School. In 1972 the School of Home Economics and the Social Services agency of the community were established.
