Fonds consists of letters from the Reverend William King, a Presbyterian clergyman, to James C. Hamilton containing an account of King's early life in Scotland and the United States and outlining the part he played in assisting fugitive slaves to settle in the province of Canada.

Hamilton, James Cleland, 1836-1907 : James C. Hamilton, born at Belfast Ireland, was educated at the University of Toronto and in 1861 was called to the bar. He practised law in Toronto for several years. As well, he was the author of a number of papers and of such books as, The Prairie Province (Toronto, 1876) and The Georgian Bay (Toronto, 1893).
