Fonds consists of microfilm of selected items from the papers of Robert Duff, including a register of fishing vessels visiting the island giving details of registry, tonnage, crew, passengers and cargo, 1775; correspondence relative to appointments and to Greenwich Hospital dues, with letters of Adm. James Graves and H.T. Cramahé concerning the situation in America and attendant military and naval matters, 1775; miscellaneous papers consisting of a translation of a memoir by the French agent de la Ferté on the American contracts, 1779, papers relative to Capt. George Murray's claim for the prize Bienfaisant, and for the salvage of the Lively of Liverpool, 1778; and material on routine naval matters, 1775-1784. This material is located on microfilm reel A-133.

Duff, Robert, d. 1787 : Robert Duff was commander-in-chief on the Newfoundland station, April 1775 to September 1777. He had reached the rank of commander in the Royal Navy by 1744, captain by 1746, and vice-admiral in 1778. From 1777 until his retirement in 1780, he served as commander in the Mediterranean.
