Gage, Thomas, 1721-1787 : Thomas Gage, a career officer, was Military Governor of Montreal, 1760-1763, and Commander-in-Chief of British North America, 1763-1772, with headquarters at New York. He also served as Governor of Massachusetts, 1774, and was again Commander-in-Chief for a short period in 1775.
