Accession consists of map sheets pertaining to operation "Polaris" and found on an old Dept. of Mines and Resources file 15236. Map sheets 39&49A S1/2, 67NE&NW, 78SW&SE, and 87SE&SW have been itemized and are grouped with annotated portions of map sheets that are either joined together or loose.
A documentation file containing correspondence, reconnaissance reports, air photo flight logs and additional map sheets, is kept with the accession file. The file contains memos to the Secretary of Air Operations, Dept. of National Defence (file SCO-1) from the Senior Canadian Observer, F/L's E.J.Haugen and J.F. Corrigan, with the 46th Reconnaissance Squadron (USAF) at Ladd Field, Fairbanks, Alaska. These reports were then forwarded to C.B.C. Donnelly, Surveyor-General and Chief, Hydrographic and Map Service, Dept. of Mines and Resources (file 889-11-11 DAO), dated 19 May to Sept. 1947.
Also included in the documentation file are reconnaissance reports 95 to 113 (flight 24) and 160-172 (flight 28); air photo flight logs for missions 7M23 (flight 18), 7M32 (21), 7M55 (28) and 7M124 (43), summaries, and map sheets showing the location for proposed emergency landing fields.

Custodial history:

Accession was transferred from the Chief Geographer, Geographical Services, Canadian Centre for Mapping, Energy, Mines and resources Canada in Dec. 1988.
