Fonds consists of a letterbook kept by Samuel Birnie for correspondence relating to trade with the West Indies and the Northwest, and to distilling, 1785-1795; together with accounts and invoices, 1785-1786. His chief correspondents were his brother John Birnie, Thomas McCord, and Theophylaet Bache of New York.
