Fonds consists of three letters from John A. Macdonald: two concerning political affairs in South Oxford, 1858; one on the formation of a volunteer corps, and briefly on New Brunswick and Confederation, 1866.

Cook, Ephraim, 1805-1881 : Ephraim Cook, physician and politician, was born in 1805, in Hadley Massachusetts, and moved to Upper Canada, where in 1831, he received his license to practise medicine and settled in the village of Norwich. He was a rebel in 1837, and was arrested for his role in the Rebellion. After being pardoned, he returned to Norwich where he continued to be involved in community affairs. He served as a member of parliament from 1854 to 1858, and ran again in the 1863 general election against George Brown, but was defeated. He died in 1881, leaving his wife and four children.
