Fonds consists of the following microfilmed material: "An autobiographical Memoir of William Rotch...", 1814, pp. 1-59, preceded by two pages of biographical notes on Rotch and his family, and followed by the text of "the Respectful Petition of the Christian Society of Friends called Quakers presented to the National Assembly of France by William Rotch... 1791," pp. 61-74 and a "Copy of Thomas Jenkin's Complaint against sundry persons, to the ... General Court" of Massachusetts, 1779, pp. 75-81. The memoirs record Rotch's experiences on Nantucket Island, as a Quaker during the American Revolution, and his travels in France and England before he settled at New Bedford in 1794. This material is located on microfilm reel A-923.

Rotch, William, 1734-1828 : William Rotch, a Quaker merchant on Nantucket Island, experienced difficulty in adhering to his religious beliefs during the American Revolution. After travels in England and France, he settled at New Bedford, Mass., in 1794.
