Fonds consists of a letter from Alexander Gray to [Lord Melville] describing his efforts to obtain justice in the settlement of the estates of his uncle, John Gray, and his father, Alexander Gray, 1787, together with extracts from the court proceedings, 1784-1786; A. Gray's "Observations upon the Laws & Customs of Canada & the Practice of the Courts of Justice in the Province of Quebec...", 1787; Adam Mabane's speech on the Quebec Act and civil law, 1787; and William Smith's draft act for the administration of justice and regulation of the practice of law, 1787.

Gray, Alexander, d. 1790 : Alexander Gray studied law in Scotland and was admitted to the Bar of Quebec in 1783. He served as acting Clerk of the Council in 1786 and as acting Solicitor General. In 1789 he was appointed Attorney General of Quebec.
