Fonds consists of correspondence, 1783-1784, and memoranda, 1782-1783, relating to C.C. Bird's office as Surveyor General of Woods in Canada, in particular the difficulties he had in obtaining his salary. Included are several letters from William VanFelson concerning the suitability of the pine for naval use; and a letter from William Walker to Robert Strachan concerning family affairs, with a postscript by Alexander Duguid to C.C. Bird concerning the family claim to 16,000 acres by royal grant, in Nova Scotia, dated 1759.

Bird, Christopher Chapman, flourished 1775-1784 : Christopher Chapman Bird (fl. 1775-1784), public servant, received a royal commission as Surveyor General of Woods in Canada, in 1782. Some confusion resulted, as Lord Dorchester had appointed his nephew, a Major Carleton, to the position in 1780.
